Who we Are
Brian Edgerton
I believe strongly in the idealism of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church. John Wesley brought the message of Hope out to the people, he didn’t wait for them to show up in church. I believe whole heartedly in being more than just a Christian…I believe in being a radical follower of Jesus Christ.
… I like to think of this ministry as not just Student Ministry, but Family Ministry. Teenagers face very difficult times. It is my calling to help those who may have lost their way or are in the midst of turbulence...
I have a heart for spreading the word of God in an urgent and relevant way. The Lord has equipped me with the gifts necessary to reach the unreachable.
One of the ways to reach people is through character development and Christ-like love. A tangible way to demonstrate this is through various service projects and mission outreach. Some of the projects we have worked on in the past include; food pantry collection, coat drive, sending care packages to troops overseas, care packages to our college students, sponsoring a child from the Philippines through Compassion International, and various mission trips. Students and adults begin to understand their own relevance in the faith community through their work in serving others. They feel a sense of purpose and are often motivated by compassion when faced with people less fortunate than themselves. This is an essential part of growing their faith with Christ. In order to accept and have love for Jesus, they first must realize that the world does not revolve around them. Serving the Students, Parents, and Families of Monfort Heights UMC will be a pleasure and an honor.
Brian has been married to his wife Dorothy for 16 years and have 4 children and live by the scripture Jeramiah 29:11-14. We have decided that God’s plan for our lives is better than our own. We do our best to listen to the Word, and follow Jesus in what ever way He wants. We don’t claim to be a perfect family, we only claim to live for Jesus.
Five Characteristics
1.WE ARE A JESUS CHURCH - We strive to be Christ-centered, keeping Jesus at the center of our beliefs and practices. He is our model, priority, passion, and pattern. He is the One who elevates us to new heights in life. (John 10:10)
2. WE ARE A WORSHIPPING CHURCH - Individual and corporate praise and worship is vital. We are designed to worship God with our lips and our lives. Based on Psalm 150, we are to worship God in everything, because God is worthy.
3. WE ARE A LOVING SERVANTS CHURCH - We seek to operate as a loving community of servants based on Ephesians 4 and Romans 12. This is where every member sees themselves as a minister. They discover their Spiritual Gifts and serve. The leaders strive to equip every member to be a minister.
4. WE ARE A MISSIONS CHURCH - Everyone deserves the opportunity to hear the Gospel. Therefore, we must reach the lost, the least, and the lonely from our neighborhoods all the way to the unreached peoples of the world. We are a Great Commandment and Great Commission church.
5. WE ARE A FAMILY CHURCH - We are committed to the health and success of all families and marriages. Families come in all shapes and sizes. We believe the family in the strength of our church and society.
