At Monfort Heights United Methodist Church

This year’s Lenten worship is based on Pastor Rick Warren’s book The Purpose Driven Life which addresses one of life’s most important questions: “what on earth am I here for?”

But Warren writes: “It’s not about you. The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your own happiness” (Page 17). Instead, he says real meaning comes from understanding and fulfilling God’s purposes for putting us on this earth.

The Purpose Driven Life became a surprising best seller after it was published in 2002. It topped the Wall Street Journal best seller charts and Publishers Weekly charts with over 30 million copies sold by 2007. It was on the New York Times best seller list for 90 weeks! How can you connect with The Purpose Drive Life at Monfort Height UMC this Lent?

  • GET YOUR OWN COPY OF THE BOOK. Many members already have copies, but some members, youth or visitors may not. Extra copies are available at church for a small donation while supplies last.
  • READ THE BOOK AS A LENTEN DEVOTIONAL. There are 40 days in Lent starting Wednesday, March 1st and the book has 40 short, easy-to-read chapters to guide you through a 40-day spiritual journey.
  • DISCUSS THE BOOK IN YOUR SMALL GROUP. Warren says “I strongly urge you to get one or more friends to join you in reading this book. A journey is always better when it is shared. You can discuss what is read and bounce ideas off each other. Real spiritual growth is never an isolated pursuit.” Or start a small group using the book.
  • GIVE A COPY OF THE BOOK TO SOMEONE YOU KNOW. It’s a priceless gift for anyone searching for purpose and meaning in their life! Invite them to a small group and to worship.
